This antique / vintage image in New York is an original creation of the time (between 1900 to 1950s) taken by Louis Jacob Curtman. He was a PhD Professor of Chemistry in New York and an active experimental photographer. Mr. Curtman was author of books in Qualitative Chemical Analysis during the first quarter of the 20th C. when he was a professor in Chemistry in The City College of New York.

Louis Jacob Curtman experimented and investigated photography process especially of photography chemical toning. The means of toning photography were later industrialized by producers like Kodak and applied by important artists like Ansel Adams.

After reviewing Mr. Curtman’s photographic archives (including prints, positives and negatives) we found that the compositions used by L. J. Curtman were his own photos with views of the city of New York, family photos including portraits, and some of his trips to Europe. The inclination of the compositions taken by L. J. Curtman were very tonal and romantic.

In this case, we can make sure the authorship of these photos and the important historical content not only for their compositions, but also for their innovative and experimental value of their time.

  • Condition: This lot is in good original condition. Please, see included images. The sale is for the negative only. Artelisted offers (only for the winner) the possibility of us printing the image on Epson Hot Press Fine Art Paper, smooth Matte Natural (cotton rag media with a natural smooth finish. Extremely high color gamut and black density. Acid-free and PH buffered. 90 ISO Brightness. The paper dimensions can vary but are approx. 5" x 6". The cost of this service per image is $ 9. We mainly ship via USPS Priority or First Class.

-Only small lot(s) could be H&S directly from Artelisted via USPS into the USA. Note that the insurance is not included (contact us if you desire insurance).

-Large items might be coordinated with a private shipper. You can research shipper companies. Our Zip Code 33428. Artelisted will keep the option to don't deliver large staff. We can help coordinating the staff to a another shipper. Buyer will pay handling, shipping, and insurance (if desired) costs. Shipping costs depends on final destination.

Sometimes the items are in the owner possession. In this case the shipping will be from a third party delivery.

In this case as a trusted third-party Artelisted collects, holds in an escrow account)and disperses payments once buyers and sellers are satisfied.
